Annapurna Ghandruk Loop Trekking and City Tour

We only had time for a brief holiday (10days) in Nepal. Idea to have at least a little trekking and stumbled on their website where brief trekkings were mentioned including ones suitable for kids (our daughter is 7 yrs) . We contacted them with a brief outline of what we would like to do - and got to our surprise still same evening response (despite time difference) . We liked his comments / suggestions and from then on it was basically some "fine-tuning" , we felt very comfortable. We'd arranged begin & end accommodation in Kathmandu and used their daytrips. And upon arrival in Kathmandu it was indeed all arranged - and even some very last minute changes were made (such as squeezing in a flight to Mt Everest prior to departure for Pokhara) , Accommodation organized was fully as per request (during trekking rooms with own bathroom) . Guide had good english knowledge. Both him and porter were very friendly and helpful . We had a splendid holidays and highly recommend Above the Himalaya

Kathmandu Valley Rim Trekking May 2012

My friend and I sincerely enjoyed the five day / four night trek around the Kathmandu valley. We were blessed with good weather and stunning views almost ever day. The guide and the two porters were very kind and helpful and together we managed to organise a 'plan B' whenever a sore knee required me to use of a local bus and to skip one leg of the trip. The trek through this very (agri)cultural valley and the conversations we had with our team gave us good insights into the lives of people in the area.

The accommodations were all well-chosen and, despite some quirkiness, had excellent  views even at night time.
I can highly recommend this trek to anyone who is not an experienced trekker and who is interested in country, culture, nature AND people.

My only recommendation to the team: learn to tell more of the stories about what is happening along the way. It will enrich the experience for the guest in your beautiful country even more.

Everest High Passes Trek May 2012

I'm just back from trekking to Everest Base Camp with a friend and then trekking over the Three Passes on my own. Above the Himalaya was excellent. I found it via Trip Advisor after I discovered that my original choice – based on a review of web sites - was not a registered operator. ATH had multiple positive reviews from my TA forum search. So I emailed it, attaching my proposed itinerary. Puru Timalsena, the MD, almost answered the email in real time! That set the scene for our future correspondence. I felt like we were talking by phone but with the conversation being transcribed as we spoke. Very impressive. Puru's trekking knowledge proved to be current and accurate, even down to the little things like the variable cost (as you go higher) of hot showers and battery charging along the routes. That is just what you want when you are making arrangements - including sending deposit money - internationally. And propose to trek over 3 of the world's highest mountain passes, which are not for the faint-of-heart or lungs. (By the way, I couldn’t have done them or made EBC without Diamox, which is readily available over-the-counter in Kathmandu; my altitude sickness symptoms started at 4000 metres. I recommend the free daily 3 pm altitude sickness talk given by the medical clinic in Pheriche. And its medical treatment, which I sampled.) I immediately felt assured that I was choosing a reliable organisation that could deal with whatever would happen. And I was not disappointed throughout my trip. The entire experience was seamless from start to finish. Puru confirmed that what I wanted to do was feasible (and he proved to be correct), we were picked up at the international airport, as promised, Puru’s choice of Kathmandu hotel was so much better than the one I thought I wanted, the Kathmandu sightseeing trip and rental equipment pickup on Day 2 were great (rental down jackets were 50 NPR per day in Kathmandu but 150 NPR per day in Namche Bazaar, when I decided I needed one) the flights to and from Lukla were trouble-free, the choice of teahouses along the way was great and the trip finished with a drop-off service to the airport in plenty of time for my international departure. Our, and then my, guide (Syam) and porter (Porkuss) were excellent. I would definitely trek with them again. They were really good people. When there are not too many who don't get on your nerves after almost 3 weeks together! All in all ATH provided a faultless service; nothing went wrong, organisationally, and there was nothing more it could have done to give me a better trip. In fact, I enjoyed it so much that I'm already planning what I can do in Nepal with ATH next year. Mustang, perhaps? I can't think how to give the company a better rap than with some repeat business.

Kathmandu City  Tour and Nagarkot Visit June 2012:

Above the Himalaya is an excellent company for organizing my short and tight plans in Kathmandu and Nagarkot.

Mr Puru Timalsena is very prompt and efficient in communication and arrangement. I have to say that I am a very naggy, experience and extreme picky traveller. He had ensure that all my arrangement and requests are up to my expectations.

My trip in Kathmandu and Nagarkot is only 1.5 days. I managed to complete 95% of my requested sightseeing plans with the great, humble and experience nice driver "Ram". Though I requested for a female tour guide and end up having a male tour guide, I am alright with it as he is a very patient and nice male tour guide too.

The price quoted to me was also very good. Non of the operators were able to quote such rates except for one or two. However, I decided to take Above The Himalaya as Mr Puru has inmpressed me alot.

Last but not least, it was an overall pleasant and great experience with the combination of all in Nepal.

If I ever come back to Nepal again or any of my friends to visit Nepal, I will definitely approach and recommend this company to anyone.

Thank you very much for everything!

Everest View Trekking May 2012

This is my first online review, I havent been impressed enough to write one in the past but this company (Puru in particular) did well enough for me to write my first one.

Puru (who took care of my trip) met with me upon arrival and I did a 7-day Evertest View trip as well as traveling to Pokhura for a couple days. Puru always seemed to be watching how my trip was going, whether by meeting me in his office of calling the guide as we were trekking. Everything was well taken care of and worry free (and in the hustle and bustle of big cities like Kathmandu thats a blessing!). The tea houses were very enjoyable and the guide spoke good English. The guide watched my pace, answered any questions I had and make sure things were taken care of at the tea houses (meals, lodging, showers, etc.). Since everything was well taken care of it left me to enjoy everything else.

Thanks AHT and Puru!

Annapurna Panorama Trekking May 2012:

My friend Tony and I decided on a relative short and easy trek in Nepal. We emailed a few local operators and settled on Above The Himalaya Trekking. From the initial contact Puru adapted to all our requirements. We had a fantastic time and all that was arranged by Puru and his staff and guides worked out great. Our guide Vasu and porter Hari were always helpful and obliging and flexible to our requests, ability and schedule. They looked well after us for the whole six days. City guide Anju also gave us a good tour of the temples and stupas of Kathmandu. The transport arrangements were always on time.

An arrangement at short notice for the flight over Everest to fit in with our schedule was also appreciated, it was the one time when we saw the full extent of the mountains. Unfortunately, whilst the weather was very good during the trek, the mountains were hidden most of the time in a haze, but at times they did pop out. So our timing was unfortunate. We were warned that this might happen toward the end of the season (second half of May), but it was the only time we had available this year.

I hope to get back sometime to trek a bit further up into the mountains or do agreater part or all of the Annapurna circuit.
So thanks to Puru for a well arranged holiday. I can recommend Above The Himalaya Trekking to anyone wanting to go on a holiday to Nepal.

Mouint Kailash Yatra May 2012

Puru Timalsena - Managing Director of Above The Himalaya Trekking (P) Ltd, organized the trip for 6 of us for Kailash Mansarover from May 28 - June 11, 2012. We had option for organizing our trip through Indian travel agent but choose to go with Puru, due to his honesty, committment and sincerity. We read on the Web that facilities for the trip was very basic but Puru and his team managed to get for us best of the basic facilities through out the trip. Thankyou very much Puru for making our journey memorable.

There was a minor issue with our travel - Due to restrictions by Chinese Authorities and communication gaps, our group size increased from 6 to 23 but Puru after our return from the trip, ammended our contract and promptly adjusted the cost charged for a larger group size - demonstrating his honesty. This is 1st time in my 25 years of travel, I have met a tour operator, who values his committments and is honest to customer. Thankyou Puru - we will come back to you again

Everest Base Camp Trekking May 2012

My daughter and I did the Everest Tea House Base Camp Trek organized by Above the Himalaya and could have not been more please with the overall experience. Above the Himalaya took care of all the details from picking us up at Kathmandu airport at the beginning of the trip to taking us back at the end of the trip. Our accommodations in Kathmandu were very comfortable. A spacious room with a/c and buffet breakfast included. Located in the Thamel district with its many shops made it easy to walk around. The included all day sightseeing tour Kathmandu was an extra bonus that we enjoyed very much. Out trek started with our guide picking us up at our hotel and flying out with us to Lukla and ending with him flying back to Kathmandu and dropping us back off at the hotel. He was with us the whole way. He was very knowledgeable of the area, the people and culture of where we were trekking. He was friendly and was able to answer all our questions. All of the tea houses/lodges we stayed at were comfortable and clean. They all offered a wide assortment of food choices and the portion sizes were plentiful. We were able to hike each day at a comfortable pace, not rushed and able to take in all that the area offered. Overall it was an absolutely wonderful experience. We highly recommend Above the Himalaya.

Annapurna Round trekking + Everest Base Camp Trek  + Bhutan Tour May/June 2012

I booked 2 months of trekking/travel with Above the Himalaya Trekking and was extremely happy with my trip and the service I received. Puru (owner) is extremely professional, proficient and paid a lot of attention to my satisfaction from the start to the end of my trip. In addition, I had requested a few changes to the trip and Puru accommodated all of them. During the planning process, Puru ensured that the trip fit my needs and once I got to Kathmandu, he made sure that I had the best experience.

I would highly recommend Above the Himalaya for Trekking in Nepal and would book my trip with them again in the future.

Everest Base Camp Trekking May 2012

I trekked with my father to Everest Base camp in the beginning of the summer with Above the Himalaya. Puru could not have been more helpful before and during our time in Nepal. He responded to all emails quickly and was there to help us with anything we needed during our time in Kathmandu. The hotel he set us up in was comfortable and clean. I loved everything about our trek. Our guide, the porter the sherpa people. Our guide spoke English and knew so much about the trail. By the end of our trip the four of us were such a good team. The tea houses were nice and the food was yummy! Couldn't have asked for a better experience, would do it again in a heart beat!

Langtang Valley Trekking April

When planning our trekking holiday about two months prior the actual holiday we sent several requests for trekking agencies to get a look of possible itineraries. In comparison to many other agencies, Puru responded our e-mails very soon and helped us fine-tune our upcoming holiday itinerary in a way that would suit us the best. We always got a response quickly and everything was well-taken care of.

Even though we had some linguistic difficulties with our guide during our 7-day trek, once we were back in Kathmandu, Puru took our feedback extremely gratefully and also seriously, e.g. giving us a free guided city-tour in Kathmandu as a compensation (which was excellent, full of detailed information and fascinating history!). Puru's caring and helpful attitude was obvious; he was there for us 24-7. As my husband ended up in a hospital because of a stomach-flu not only did Puru help us with getting to the hospital but also spent time there waiting with us to make sure everything was ok.

We recommend this company for all trekkers.
