Manaslu Trek

Manaslu Base Camp TrekConsidered one of the most challenging treks in Nepal, the Manaslu Circuit will reward the adventurous with an unparalleled alpine experience. Opened in 1992, this area offers a combination of rich culture heritage, unsurpassed beauty, and biological diversity. But mountaineering expeditions have had long access to the area. In 1950, a party led by HW. Tillman trekked from Thonje to Bimtang and Col. Jimmy Roberts crossed Larkya La looking for an interesting mountain to climb. Manaslu (8156m) was attempted by Japanese Expeditions every year from 1952 until 1956, when the first ascent was made. Having become to be known as "Japanese Mountain", much of the information about the area was available in Japanese. The Japanese continued to dominate the climbing scene of Manaslu until 1971. A few trekkers, including peripatetic Hugh Swift, managed to obtain the trekking permit for the region, but otherwise this trek always has been the domain of the mountaineering expeditions. The journey around these legendary mountains is enjoyable and tough.

Beginning from Gorkha Budi Gandaki Valley River, crossing the snow bound Larkya La pass (5213m). Snow-covered peaks over 6500m towers above as we cross. The descent, once off the snow, takes us through alpine then tropical areas, bursting with ferns, bamboo, pine trees, waterfalls and aqua-blue green lakes laced with cotton-white beaches. Finally, Manaslu will disappear as we descend to Beshishar (832m.) from where we will drive back to Kathmandu.

Trip Highlights:

Visit Tibetan village at Langtang – Amazing views of Langtang Ri, Ganesh Himal, Lang Sisa – Ascent of Chorkari Ri (5050m) – Panoramic views of 10 peaks over 6000m – Spectacular views of the Ice fluted Gyanghempo- Crossing the Ganjala pass 5122m- Walk through the Helembu valley.
