Gokyo Lake TrekThis Jiri Gokyo Lake Cho-La Pass trek commences overland to the road heading to Jiri (6 hrs). We follow the original route of the early expeditions through some truly beautiful alpine scenery. This region is relatively underdeveloped compared to the trail from Lukla onwards. The trek provides an insight into the many traditional aspects of the lives of the different ethnic groups of the area -- Tamang, Kami, Brahmins, Kshetri & Sherpa. We enter to a Sagarmath National Park Sagarmatha is an exceptional area with dramatic mountains, glaciers and deep valleys. Dominated by Mount Everest the highest peak in the world. The park shelters several rare species, such as the snow leopard and the lesser panda. The presence of the Sherpa’s with their unique culture, adds further interest to this site.” The attraction includes spectacular scenery and the out going Sherpa people of the Solukhumbu. The first part of the trek is not only a hard slog, but is also pretty spares in the breathtaking views. This trek cuts across the valley and starts in Nepal speaking Hindu lowlands and ends in the Tibetan Buddhist Highlands. This trek explores around the breathtaking Gokyo valley which is located adjacent of the Khumbu. Gokyo is a land of high altitude lakes. From where you will have a magnificent view of highest peaks, from the west to east are Cho you (8,153m), Gyachung Kang (7,922m), Everest ( 8848m), Lhotse (8,501m) and further way Makalu, On the way to descent you can enjoy, superb view of Gokyo Lake.

Jiri Gokyo Lake Chola Pass Trekking Itenieary

Day 01:Meet at Kathmandu Airport and transfer to hotel

Days 2:Sight-seeing of Kathmandu: Full day’s sightseeing in Kathmandu valley includes the Hindu temple complex at Pashupatinath (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) & the biggest Buddhist Stupa at Boudhanath. Also visit Monkey Temple the Swyambhunath (2000 years old temple) and visit Patan city of fine arts. Return to the hotel.

Day 3:Kathmandu - Jiri: Drive to Jiri, 187 km form Kathmandu .

Day 4:Jiri - Deorali: The trek begins witha steady climb through cultivated fields and tiny Tamang villages. Climbing diagonally , we cross forested areas and open pasture land before again descending to Shivalaya. From here it's steady climb to the top of the Deorali pass( 3000m) where we spend the night.
Day 5:deorali - Sete: From Deorali, it's a short walk to the Sherpal village fo Bhandar which is littered wity prayer walls and small gompas ( buddhist temples) Descending to the valley floor at the river side town of Kenja, the trail climbs steeply up a ridge ruchly forested with oak and rhododendron to Sete ( 2575m) whose beautiful hilltop monastery is a worth a visit.

Day 6:Sete Junbesi: We climb through fragnant pine and oak forest to the Lamjura pass ( 3500m) for our first glimpse of Everest, then it's downhill again to the large Sherpa village of Junvbesi. From here there are goodo views Gaurishankar, Number Himal and Dudh Kunda.

Day 7:Junbesi - Nuntala: From here we walk up the solung ridge, from where Everest is again visible and then descend to Ringo Khola, ringed with apple orchards. The trail crosses the Traksindola (3071m) before descending once again through the forest to Nuntala.

Day 8:Nuntala - Kharikhola: From nuntala the descend continues to Dudh Koshi ( Milk river) the largest river on the trek. Then ascend through severeal Sherpa and Rai villages. Terraced fields and forest to the spread out village of Khari-Khola

Day 9:Khari-Khola - Puiyan:The path ascends through Sherpa villages and a forest inhabited by monkeys, and then winds steeply up adn down through the Dudh Koshi canyan to Puiyan.

Day 10:Puiyan - Phakding: The trail climbs for about an hour after Puiyan to a ridge at 2800m. then up to another ridge. Passing the path to Lukla airport, after which we climb on to Phakding.

Day 11:Phakding to Namche (3,440m)- Beginning with a slight climb to Jhorsalle, the trail passes a waterfall. All day, we pass villages interspersed with magnificent forest- rhododendron, magniolia trees and giant firs. And on the way to walking you will be rewarded (weather permitting) your first glimpse of Kusum Kanggru (6369m) Thamserku (6608m) Everest (8848m) and Nuptse (7879 m). A steep climb up to the beautiful village of Namche bazaar (3440m).

Day 12: Acclimatization day in Namche Acclimatization is most important before proceeding to a higher elevation. You can set off on a short day hike to Thame, Khunde ofr Khumjung or relax and explore the sherpa culture of Namch-

Day 13:Namchebazaar to Phortse Thanga:Leave Namche along the direction of the gompa and turn right after the large rocks engraved with Buddhist images.The trek climbs the hill to Khumjung and descends to the valley of Dudhkoshi and arrives at Phortse Thanga (3,500m) which offers supreb views of Thamserku (6,608m), Kangtewa

Day 14:Phortse Thanga to Machermo: This will be another short day trek to aid acclimatization to the altitude.The path goes through the middle of forest and offers the first view of Cho you peak (8,153m), working , through rhododendron forest and juniper and large conifers appear as the elevation increases making the trekking beautiful in spring. The trail passes through kharkas and summer settlements to Dole after thatWe wil work across a rocky terrain scattered with a few dwarf rhododendrons. staying overnight at Machermo at (4,410m)

Day 15:Machermo Gokyo Lakes : The trail climbs a ridge for an excellent view both down the valley to Kengtega and up towards Cho Oyu and descend to a river and again climbs steep to the terminal moraine of the Ngozumpz glacier. A few lakes appear on the trail and finally reach to Gokyo (4,750m), which is a collection of stone houses and walled pastures on the shores of large lake. The mountain views in the Gokyo region are spectacular. A two-hour climbing on Gokyo Ri (5350m), the small peak above the lake provides panoramic views of Cho Oyu, Gyachung Kang, Lhotse, Makalu, cholatse and Tawache

Day 16:Gokyo Lake explore around and trekking down to Thangnak (4700m): The excursion to the Gokyo peak usually starts early in the morning. The climb is quite steep first 30 minutes it will take you an hour to reach the top with its traditional prayer flags. From where you will have a magnificent view of highest peaks, from the west to east are Cho you (8,153m), Gyachung Kang (7,922m), Everest ( 8848m), Lhotse (8,501m) and further way Makalu, On the way to descent you can enjoy, superb view of Gokyo Lake. After trekking down  to Thangnak (4700m)

Day 17: Thangnak  to Cho La crossing- Dzongla: The trek through Cho La Pass (5,330m), while this is a rather difficult route, requires some mountaineering experience and well equipped. We suggest bringing warm clothing and some extra food. There are no technical problems and there is a trail in the rocks besides the icefall.

Day 18: Dzongla to Lobuche: about 4 and half hour slowly working to Lobuche (4910m) on the way you can see Dughla Lake.

Day 19:Lobuche - Gorakshep – Visit Everst Base Camp and back to Gorakshep (5,140m) - The trail from Lobuche follows the grassy ablation valley with great views of Pumori then crosses tributary glaciers to reach the dry lake bed of Gokrakchep we then visit Everset Base camp and back to sleep in Gorakshep. the 5545m Kala pattar for incredible views of Everest and Everest base camp.

Day 20: Gorak Shep trekking to Kala Patthar (5545m) trekking back to Pheriche (4280 m) 7-8 hrs:
We start early in the morning as mornings are usually sparkling and clear and best time to climb the Kalapathar, this is the highlight of the trekking, we will be rewarded the 360 degree dramatic panorama views of Mt Everest and surroundings mountains, On being back to Gorak Shep, we have breakfast followed by a gradual descend down to Pheriche for a good night's rest. Overnight in Pheriche. (B,L,D)

Day 21: Pheriche Trekking to Namche Bazaar via Pangboche and Tengboche: 6-7 hour:
We will trek down through the hillside blanketed by rhododendron and juniper trees. If it's spring, pink and red rhododendron flowers ablaze our surroundings from Tengboche the trail goes down to Phunki Thanga, from here mostly the trail goes through the pine forests and have chance to see the wild life like mountain goats, snow leopard and colorful pheasants, finally we will arrive at Namche for overnight stay.

Day 22: Namche Bazaar trekking back to Phakding (2,652m): 4-5 hour:
Today the trail descends steeply downward before crossing the suspension bridges on Dudh Koshi River. From here the trail becomes more level and natural. We will work though rhododendron and pine forests with the view of distance snow covered peak before arriving Phakding.

Day 23: Phakding trekking back to Lukla (2,850): 3 hour We trek back to Lukla along the same trail, although it always looks different coming from the opposite direction. We have a short day of trekking, so we can arrive Lukla for Lunch, arriving earlier is wiser in the season time to check the flight ticket. We can have full afternoon for relax and recalls the experience of the lifetime journey.

Day 24: Flight from Lukla - KTM, After arriving back at the Kathmandu Domestic Airport we will return you to your hotel

Day 25: Today you will be free to spend the afternoon shopping, It's also spare day in case of bad weather in Lukla which makes the Lukla flight delayed and cancel. In the evening you can enjoy a typical Nepalese dinner and cultural show.

Day 26: Depart Kathmandu: If you are leaving Nepal and not continuing your holiday here in Nepal, we will take you to the Kathmandu Airport to catch your flight home. Our staff will oversee your safe and timely arrival at the Tribhuvan International Terminal and help you arrange your last minute departure details.

The type of accommodation you prefer in Kathmandu and/or Pokhara will make a difference to the overall cost (budget to 5 star accommodation) The mode of transport you prefer will also affect the cost of your package, for example prices vary greatly between flying versus private car/van, tourist or local buses. The number of guides and/or porters required will also affect the total cost of your trek. For these reasons the same trek/tour can vary in price quite substantially.
