Everest View Trekking
I recently returned from a trip to Nepal, and had a fantastic trek with Above the Himalaya. I was traveling with strict time restraints and could only do part of the EBC trek on specific dates.
No problem, Puru hooked me up with a custom trek up to Tengboche and back. I am a solo female traveler and picked Above the Himalaya because of other reviews from lone ladies. They are all true; I could not have asked for a more professional guide (Phurba Sherpa - request him if you can!) or company. Phurba's knowledge of the trail, tea houses, region in general was amazing, as was his care when my knee got inflamed.
When we returned to KTM, the Maoists were demonstrating and the city was on lockdown. Puru offered to help me find a hotel with generators and a restaurant (which my guest house did not have), as well as checked in with me a few days later to make sure all was okay.
I will definitely be returning to Nepal to finish the EBC trek and will definitely book with Above the Himalaya again. The personal attention and warmth from both Puru and Phurba will stay with me for a long time.

Nepal Tour and Trekking
I normally do not write reviews of trips I have taken, but my recent trip to Nepal with my daughter for her college graduation was so superior to any other that I had to put it into words. I do my diligence when booking trips and I was struck by the variety and diversity of trips offered by Above the Himalaya Trekking (P) Ltd. and by its managing director, Puru Timalsena. I started corresponding with him almost a year in advance of my May-June 2010 trip. He was always very responsive to my many emails and always offered good, sound suggestions for a successful trip. We had limited time 9 days which is very short for a country like Nepal.
I had traveled to Nepal 3 times before in the 90�s for business so I basically knew what I did and didn�t want to see. It was my daughter�s first trip there, so I really wanted it to be special. We were professionally met on time at the airport by Puru along with traditional Marigold traveler garlands. We stayed in a five star hotel while in Kathmandu. We were able to tour the whole Kathmandu valley with all of its temple sites with a wonderful tour guide, Koumara, who was well spoken in English and a wealth of knowledge about the Buddhist and Hindu cultures and religion. We also toured the walled city of Bhatkapur. We then flew on the Mountain flight past Everest and the rest of the Himalayan range. Then, a quick flight off to Pokhara, again all connections were met on time by representatives of the company.
Due to the heat of the season and my health, we opted last minute, to change our trekking plans and remain in Pokhara. Puru completely altered our itinerary and within 1 hour our plans were changed to accommodate our new schedule. New tours were added and all worked seamlessly. All for only a nominal charge since we were adding nights in a good hotel and not staying in tea houses as originally planned. My daughter then flew on a Micro light aircraft into the Annapurna range, truly a once in a lifetime experience! We toured the Pokhara valley and explored around Fewa Lake, truly a beautiful calming place after the hustle and bustle of Kathmandu.
We then again were met by our driver for our drive to Chitwan Park. While en route we had a wonderful white water rafting experience on the Trisulli River (Class 3). We saw the diversity of the countryside and the way of life of the people of the region, everything was so GREEN! After the raft ride we drove on to Chitwan Park. We stayed in a brand new hotel with beautiful grounds, rode camels and then elephants! We then saw an excellent cultural show of the Taru people, half dance and half martial arts! The next day our elephant safari was terrific, although no tigers were spotted, we saw Asian Rhino�s and spotted deer and a multitude of birds. My daughter then went for an Elephant Bath, where you ride an elephant bareback into the river and you get the full elephant trunk shower experience! She then rode her elephant back into town. After a wonderful meal prepared by our hotel staff, we packed for our flight back to Kathmandu for our last evening in Nepal, again staying in a five star hotel.
We woke already packed and did a final walking tour of the city to Durbar square and some last minute shopping. Again we were met on time and whisked off to the airport for our trip home to NYC. As a parting gift we were each given a silk scarf as a token of friendship and safe travel. I would recommend Above the Himalaya Trekking to anyone wishing to go to Nepal. The itineraries can be combined or custom designed by Puru and fit into any travel schedule. They also have well designed preplanned treks throughout the region.
They are a responsible, professional, honest, safety conscious organization, which you can rely on when booking from continents away. His prices are extremely competitive and a great value. I have visited over 52 countries and have never had better service!

Puru was the best! From greeting us at the airport with a flower lei, to delivering us to the airport with some local souveniers. He handled every minute detail, introduced us to our guide before our trek began and was on call 24/7 even when we encountered travel delays out of his control.
The trek itself was beautiful and memorable but beware it is not for the meek and weak. Trek with a sense of adventure and be prepared to rough it, the views and charm of the local villages and people will be worth any inconveniences.

My trekking guide, Phurba-san was more than excellent. He always took care of this 60 years old person, and managed to arrange practically a private room at each lodge for my comfort. He helped me a lot, particularly when I had a bad food. I also appreciated his work on securing return flight despite cancellation on the previous date.
Thank you for giving me a very good climbing guide Lhakpa Sherpa and I am happy you will follow my suggestion from climbing for your next trip, I suggest to have each of your climbing guide use a satellite mobile during the peak climbing as there are mostly out of regular mobile ranges
Anyway, I enjoyed very much the climbing as attached photos.

The Royal Annapurna trekking & Villages Tour March-April 2010
We would like to congratulate Mr. Puru Timalena for his profesionality and the special attention he gives to his costumers.
Puru organized for us two trekkings very pleasant and easy for walking according to our demand. In the first one (The Royal Annapurna Trek) besides the special views over cultivated fields and the relation with local children we enjoyed a lot the company of our guide Purna Kark and his team, we felt were treated like kings in every moment and they gave us more of their persons than any tourist deserve.
The second trekking allows us to participate in the normal life of Puru´s village named Pursuk, living with his family as special guests. Annapurna Circuit Trekking
I would like to recommend "Above the Himalaya Trekking" agency, which provided an excellent, top notch service to us this October. Special kudos go to Mr. Puru Timalsena (Managing director) and our guide, Mr. Dipak Karki.
It all started with an inquiry about the price of a mountain flight to Everest. Our emails were answered very promptly and professionally. Since we were planning to trek the Annapurna Circuit, we decided to put our trust in this agency and hire a porter/guide through it. For us, two inexperienced trekkers from Israel (actually, it was the very first trek for both of us) the top priority was to hire a very good guide.
It turned out that our choice was correct. Mr. Dipak Karki, is a very experienced (it was his 19th Annapurna circuit) and friendly guide. His English is also really good. It was a joy to trek with him. Mr. Puru Timalsena booked excellent hotels in Kathmandu and Pokhara (much better than we were able to find ourselves). He also provided a lot of other services, like confirming our Nepal Airlines tickets or picking us up at the airport.
So our stay in Nepal was very pleasant and our Annapurna circuit trek was a huge success. Without any prior experience in trekking, we were able to hike some 300 km, visit the remote Tilicho Lake and cross the Thorong La. I am very grateful for all the service, provided by "Above the Himalaya Trekking" agency.

I had an awesome time on my trek with Above The Himalaya Trekking and Puru. As a young female traveler I was a bit worried to be on my own with a guide, but it turns out that those fears were completely unfounded.
Puru who was previously a guide himself, assured me that I would be safe and set me up with a guide who understand and respected my situation.
Bhola was attentive and made sure that I felt comfortable and safe everywhere we went. He told me a lot abut Nepali culture and 2wa happy to answer all of my questions but he also often left me alone with my thoughts- the perfect balance!
Puru could not have chosen a nicer or more knowledgeable guide.

We had a really good time and our trek. The mountain peaks take our breath way and there was great diversity of scenery en route ranging from subtropical to alpine to desert –like terrain in Mustang
The trek was very well organized, all our emails were promptly answered by Puru and he made sure we had the guide he wanted for us. Mohan by delaying our trek for 2 days. Mohan is a very caring person and treated us all like family, including our 12 years old daughter. Everest Panorama View Trekking Oct/Nov 2009
We just completed the Everest Panorama View trek which was absolutely amazing! Our guide, Ramesh, did a fantastic job of pointing out all the mountains, explaining the Nepalese and Sherpa culture, taking care of our health/safety and teaching us a few new card games, too! The whole trip was very well organized and flexible according to our needs.
It is hard to describe the beauty of the Everest Region so we highly recommend a visit – especially with Above The Himalaya Trekking! After that every ting went smoothly from airport picking up at midnight the day view in Kathmandu, the 18 days trekking, everything are excellent. Especially my trekking guide Dipak, without his help I wouldn’t able to reach the EBC and Gokyo Ri.

Just a quick email to say thank you for organising the trek. It was an incredible experience and the scenery was out of this world, particularly around Manang and along the Thorung La Pass.
Bhala was a fantastic guide. He was knowledgable, enthusiastic and willing to do everything necessary to make the trek a success. He is very easy to get along with and I really enjoyed the two weeks I spent with him. He has a great sense of humour and a very friendly nature. He is a real credit to you and your company. Many of the guides who I met along the circuit also spoke very highly of him too.
I was extremely grateful that you and Bhala were both so flexible about cutting the trek short by 2 days. We managed to cover the circuit quicker than expected. Also, a number of other trekkers who we met along the route were doing the same and spending a couple of days in Pokhara relaxing so I decided to join them.
Thanks also for organising the extra night etc at the Kathmandu Hotel.

With Puru’s invaluable help I had wonderful wonderful trip. I am a fairly experienced solo traveler and that was my first time using all guides for all the logistics and it definitely saved a lot of time and effort. I packed a lot in my 2 weeks in Nepal, Kathmandu and around, overnight in Bhaktapur, Pokhara, Paragliding, Ghorepani Ghandruk trek, Bandipur, Manakamana cable car all the arrangements were excellent.
Puru has been very easy to reach and the man got me a present and a cake for my birthday. How sweet is that!

Nepal Village Tour and Poonhill Trek

We also highly recommend our guide Dhurba Bista and Our Porter Basu Duiwadi, They were always courteous and friendly. We are in our 60?s and they were both most patient and helpful. At the end of our trek we regarded them as our Nepali Sons!

Everest Base Camp Trek May 2009:
I highly recommend Puru and his team for any trekking adventure. We
were a team of 7 people on our first trek to Nepal. Our plan was to
trek to Everest Base Camp/Kalar Pathar then to the Cho La Pass to
Gokyo. From the outset of our planning, Puru provided lots of helpful
information and his concern was always our safety and to enjoy our
time in Nepal. He replied promptly to all of my e-mails and the
overall communications during the planning stages was outstanding. We
developed a conservative itinerary to minimize the possibility of AMS.
Upon arrival to Katmandu, we were met at the airport by Puru and
taken to our hotel. We finalized our itinerary at Puru’s office and
met our lead guide Shyam. Our assistant guide Ramesh was to meet us
several days later in Phadking.
Once we started our trek, Shyam and Ramesh were outstanding guides.
They were nothing short of amazing and made our trip so enjoyable!!
Shyam, our lead guide was exceptional teaching us and helping learn
about the various traditions and he shared many stories about the
local culture and religion. Shyam has a wonderful personality and
gets along great with everybody. Ramesh was also magnificent and very
patient always helping the slower trekker(s) and he would always have
a smile on his face. They were outstanding in all aspects of the trek
from getting the best tea houses available to making sure the food and
water was always of the highest quality. They were both always
concerned with our health and safety. In fact, when one of our
members developed a mild case of AMS, we added another rest day to
help in their acclimation to reduce their symptoms and they made it to
EBC safely. We were blessed to have 2 of the best guides on the
mountain.
We so many trekking companies to chose from, Above the Himalaya
delivers outstanding services at an excellent price with superior
customer service. We came to Nepal as tourists and left having made
many friends and feeling a part of the local culture. This was due
to the caring and wonderful experience provided by Above the Himalaya Trekking team.

Langtang Gosainkunda Trek April 2009
I have been a regular visitor to Nepal for the last ten years and have completed a number of treks, among them Mt.Everest Base Camp, Gokyo Lakes, the Annapurna Circuit and Poon Hill, to name a few.All were filled with new experiences, adventure and challenges. I hired various Porters and Guides for those treks.
But nothing comes close to the fantastic support and organisation of the Above Himalaya Trekking Company, led by Puru Timilsina, and his cheerful team!
I have trekked the Kokoda Track in Papua New Guinea, and the Inca Trail in Peru so the bar was high for Puru and his team to reach, which they did, smoothly and with great professionalism.
When I chose Puru and his team at the Above Himalaya Trekking Company to organize my Langtang/Helambu Trek in March/April this year, it was the wisest of all choices!. From the first contact by e-mail to the last goodbye and final detail, Puru and his team demonstrated what a truly dedicated and excellent organisation they are.
Puru cheerfully adjusted my trek details and the date for departure, not once, but twice! My Guide, Phurba and I met in Puru's office the evening before my trek began.
Phurba raced to the office to meet me at very short notice, and I felt very comfortable with both him and Puru.
I had no hesitation in asking any question. They were forthright and frank about any concerns I had, and both gave me answers without any hesitation, thus confirming their skill and comprehension of English.
Because I am a older female, and would be trekking alone, Puru based his choice of Guide on this information.
I am happy to say, his decision in electing Phurba to travel with me was excellent.
Every moment of my trek was a fun and challenging experience, just how I like it. AND! Phurba delivered my morning coffee to me just as I like it every single day too! I felt safe, secure and most importantly, understood by Phurba, not just the language, my Guide understood me and my needs. This was very important for me. I never felt pressured to walk faster if I didn't feel like it, the accomodation was always with a view to my degree of physical condition at the end of each day. Sometimes ground floor, sometime two flights of stairs!
Phurba's cheerful nature, happy smile and dedication to delivering only the best service was without falter. His knowledge of the Langtang & Helambu area is comprehensive and he was sure to point out many new and intriguing things to me along the way. His help through deep snow over the Laurabina Pass was also greatly appreciated!
The food, accomodation and distances we trekked each day were all totally in sync with daily my requirments, I think Phurba is a mindreader!
My whole trek was an experience I will always remember as 'My best trek yet'. The final detail was that Phurba came to the airport to present me with the creamy silk scarf, called a Karta, to ensure my safe and happy travels as I departed Nepal.I will definately be e-mailing Puru when I am ready to do my next trek, and have no reservations in recommending their service to all people of all ages and status. Lone females can feel secure and safe in contacting Puru to organize their trek or travels.Thank you Puru and your team for giving me such great service and a wonderful and unforgettable trek.

Just finished the Annapurna Circuit trek. Fully impressed by Puru’s services, Our guide Ramesh and our Porter Ramsaran were great. Very helpful and always trying to please. Getting Above the Himalaya Trekking services was one of the best decision we made. Our holiday was so easy and stress free, Puru took care of every thing.

Annapuran Poonhill trek March 06/10 2009:
I
have done one trek in Nepal from the 06th of March to the 10th of March. Unfortunately my stay was very short. I've contacted a local guide company, " Above The Himalaya Trekking". The guy, Puru, provide me a good proposition.
From Pokhara to Ghorepani; then Poon Hill to Chomrong (a very tough day); chomrong to Dampus. (average of 9hrs/day of walk)
The view at Poon Hill was wonderfull, nobody has to missed it!
Near chomrong we went to some hot spring pool near a mountain river; it was amazing.
The accomodation were clean and simple. The sanitary were quiet rough. No need to carry to many stuff with you, in village you can find everything (water, toilet paper soap battery
Food was great, and without any limitation (included in the price),try the french fries!
Everything was organised by the guide company. We had with us 1 guide and 1 porter, both speaking english, and knowing well the region. They were very flexible and organised.
I warmly recommand this people. I got a very fast answer when I was looking for a trek in such a short time, and price was reasonnable. They organised also the flight between KTM to POKHARA and the TREKKING PERMIT was ready when we arrive.
