Lhasa Everest Base Camp Tour

The Lhasa Everest Base Camp Tour is a Overland Journey from Tibet to Nepal with side trip to Rongbuk Monastery and North Everest Base Camp, getting to the Everest base camp, the very foot of the peak is neither to expensive nor too difficult. Lhasa Everest Base Camp trek package can take you to the nearest point of the third pole you can be if you don’t intent to climb the peak. And along with the Everest thrill you can visit loads of beautiful places in Tibet.

The tour starts with a Himalayan flight to Lhasa from Kathmandu. This one hour flight is like a free mountain ride to you. You get to travel and you’ll have opportunity to observe the world’s greatest mountains. Upon arrival in Lhasa you will get time to acclimatized and refresh in your hotel. The second and third day of the tour is Lhasa special. In these two days you will be visiting places like Jokhang Temple, Barkhor market, Potala Palace, Sera and Drepung monasteries. Don’t forget to buy a souvenir to take back home in the Lhasa Streets. On the fourth day you will drive to Gyantse from Lhasa via Yamadroke Lake and very high passes that are around 5,000m. 5th day of the tour includes sightseeing in Gyantse including Jokhang Temple, Barkhor market, Potala Palace, Sera and Drepung monasteries which is followed by 1.5 hours drive to Xigatze in the evening through the typical Tibetan countryside.  Morning in the Xigatse passes by as you visit the Panchen Lama’s Tashilhumpu Monastery. In the afternoon you will drive to Tingri crossing over Gyatchula (a pass of 5,200m) to end the day’s journey. On the 7th day you will drive from Tingri to Ronbuk through the beautiful Tibetan country side. In Ronbuk you get a chance to visit the highest monastery in the world. The Everest Base Camp is mere 4 Km away from the town of Ronbuk. You can rent a horse cart here to ride to the Base camp or you can walk if you like. Dedicate the 8th day of tour to Visit and explore the Everest BC and come back to Ronbuk to end your day and rest. The 9th day is the returning journey from Ronbuk to Nyalam or Zhangmu. You will drive back to Tingri and further to Nyalam enjoying the extraordinary view of Mt. Xishapagma & Mt. Cho Oyo. You can call it a day at Nyalam or you can drive down the winding road to Zhangmu passing hundreds of waterfalls. The 10th day is a drive from Nyalam/Zhangmu to Kathmandu watching all the panoramic view of Nepalese country side. If you are interested in fresh fish from the cold river you can stop at places like Dolalght or Chehere on the way.

Lhasa Everest Base Camp Tour itinerary details:

Day 01:Day 01 Arrive in Lhasa (3650 m/11972ft)

The Starting day of the Lhasa Everest Base Camp Tour, you will arrive Lhasa via Nepal or mainland China. If you choose to fly from Kathmandu to Lhasa you will have 1 hour 10 minutes Trans-Himalayan flight which is considered one of the most beautiful air routes in the world. the flights provides you the magnificent views of  Everest (8848m), Kanchenjunga (8536m) and other Himalayan peaks., You will be met at Gonggar Airport by your Tibetan guide. After immigration formalities, you will be driven to Lhasa (3650 meters). It takes around 45 minutes to reach the old city. After checking in at your hotel, you will reach Lhasa. It's advisable to rest and take it easy for the remainder of the day due to Lhasa's altitude. Overnight in Lhasa

Day 02:Lhasa Sightseeing Tour
Today we explore the heart of Tibet with taking the special tour; our tour begins with a visit to Sera Monastery, Sera, in Tibetan, means "Wild Rose Garden" since opulent wild rose woods once grew around it. The Sera monastery was completed in 1419. The Monastery is erected grandly at a mountain slope with a colorful architecture, Explore Norbulinka Palace, in Tibetan ‘beautiful gardens’ and the summer palace of the Dalai Lama. At serene Sera Monastery, enjoy watching the monks animatedly debating the Buddhist scriptures and see the wonderful collection of ancient murals and statues as well as scriptures written in gold powder, wonderful scroll paintings, tapestries and Thangka that can be seen throughout.  Visit the Jokhang Temple, a spiritual center of Tibetan people. Every day, numerous Buddhists from every corner of Tibet come to burn incense to worship here. Follow the pilgrimage circuit along the ancient streets of the old town around Barkhor Bazaar and return back to hotel for overnight. 

Day 03: Another Sightseeing Day in Lhasa
Today we will explore the Potala Palace and Drepung Monastery. The 17th century Potala Palace offers an awesome view of entire city and also has private quarters of the Dalai Lama, numerous grand state rooms and chapels, you are guided thought ancient chamber of the palace and get to see Tibetan art and statues,  After visit Potala palace enjoy the solemnity of holy Dreprung Monastery one of the largest Monastery in Tibet which was built in 14th century used to shelter around 10,000 monks, where you can observe many nuns and monks changing and performing religious discourses,  but as now there has been quite a declination resulting in only few hundreds. Tibetans' respect and belief are immensely knotted with this monastery; evening free for Shopping Here you can pick up some Tibetan Souvenir for you and some gifts for your loved ones.

Day 04: Drive to Gyantse (93km) 3950m. Overnight Gyantse
Gyantse is a small agricultural town, famous for its wool carpets and the Phalkor Choide Chorten. Between a monastery and fort, this unique structure, built in 1414 consists of five stories representing the five steps to enlightenment, topped by thirteen rings, symbolizing the stages of advancement towards Buddhahood. There are 108 (a sacred number in Buddhism) halls inside, each with frescoes and Buddha Shrines, the frescoes showing a strong Indian influence. Before 1959 traders coming from Kalimpong and Gangtok ( India ) used to enter Tibet through Yandong and then to Gyantse, en route to Lhasa .

Day 05: Drive to Shigatse (245km) 3900m
Xigatse is the place of the famous Tashilumpo Monastery and the seat of Panchen Lama visit Tashilunpo Monastery. Shigatse is famous for its Tashilhunpo Monastery; it is the seat of the Panchen Lama, who is regarded as the reincarnation of the Buddha of Endless Enlightenment. Items of interest inside this monastery, built in 1447 by the first Dalai Lama, are the relics of Sakyamuni, the Hall of Maitreya, and a vast collection of Thankas, frescoes and statues. There is a bustling ‘free’ market at the foot of the ruins of the Shigatse Fortress where, one can buy local handicrafts embedded with coral and turquoise, Tibetan daggers, Chinese porcelain and yak butter. Day 06: Shigatse  Drive to Tingri (4,100m): 270km
Today you will traverse along the Friendship Highway amidst picturesque landscape with the visiting Panchen Lama’s Tashilhumpu Monastery  driving past small town of Lhatse and Gyamtso La pass at 5220m. As the route opens into plains, many monasteries and camps of nomadic herders become visible en route, overnight at hotel

Day 07: Tingri  Drive to  Ronbuk (4,980m): Aprox 90km
Scenic drive to Ronbuk through the beautiful Tibetan countryside. Explore Ronbuk Monastery (highest monastery in the world) – You can then view spectacular sight of Mount Everest. You have the opportunity to explore Everest Base Camp (5150m.) The base camp itself is dry and barren, but the views of Everest more than compensates for it. It truly is an awe-inspiring place with the sheer north face of the highest mountain in the world towering above you. Overnight accommodation at a guest house.

Day 08: Rongbuk hiking to Everest Base Camp and back to Ronbuk (4+4 km)
Today we explore around Everest Base Camp and to watch sunrise on Mt. Everest. It is a truly awe inspiring place with the absolute north face of the highest mountain in the world soaring above you. You can Rent a horse cart or walk to the Everest BC and explore around – back to Rongbuk, Overnight accommodation at a guest house.

Day 09: Ronbuk – Nyalam (3,700m)/ Zhangmu (2,300m): 350km/335km
Drive back to Tingri and further to Nyalam by over-crossing the high pass of lulang La (5,050m) from where one can enjoy the magnificent view of the Mt. Xishapagma (8,212m) & Mt. Cho Oyu (8,201m) you descend from the arid Tibetan Plateau to verdant Zhangmu on the Nepalese border  through the winding mountainous road with hundreds of waterfalls, Guest House in Nayalam/ Hotel in Zhangmu.

Day 10:  Nyalam/ Zhangmu Drive to Kathmandu (1320m) 155/ 123km
After necessary border formalities, continue scenic drive to Kathmandu through the green lush countryside, A few kilometers drive away from Zhangmu to Friendship Bridge across Bhote Koshi river brings you to the Immigration Control in Kodari. Here, you will part with your Tibetan guide and driver, and walk across the river to meet your Nepalese escort who will drive you to Kathmandu. After driving about 5 hours for 123 km, you finally arrive in Kathmandu.
